Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi launches DIVR®, underwater VR experience

Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi and Ballast VR announce the launch of the newest DIVR® experience, the United Arab Emirates’ first ever aquatic virtual reality experience.

Commenting on the new Underwater VR experience, Leander de Wit, General Manager at Yas Waterworld said: “At Yas Waterworld there are always new experiences to discover, and exciting adventures to be lived. We are excited to introduce this first-of-its-kind adventure in the UAE that is guaranteed to deliver unforgettable guest experiences. We strive to cater each experience to fit our guests’ interests and look forward to welcoming waterpark fans to try out the all-new Underwater VR Experience!”

Park-goers can come along for a drift dive through the most mesmerizing parts of the ocean, visiting underwater wrecks, caves, and submarines. Or glide weightlessly down the slope of a mountain, soaring over waterfalls and flying through amazing canyons. Those up for an “out of this world” adventure can float high above the earth and explore inside and out of the space station.

Customers can drift among marine life in our ‘Ocean’ experience.

Ballast CEO, Stephen Greenwood said “We’d like to thank the entire team at Yas for helping realize our vision by bringing groundbreaking attractions to the region and demonstrate an incredible successful debut even amidst the challenges of 2020. We have no doubt that this attraction’s popularity will continue to build momentum in 2021 and beyond as we make plans to expand our attraction portfolio in the region.”

Yas Waterworld has been a leader in the UAE when it comes to innovation and introducing their customers to unique new experiences. With DIVR®, Yas Waterworld wanted to expand their offering with a one-of-a-kind attraction that offers great ROI with little initial investment.

The experience was priced at 75 Dhs per person (USD$20.50) or 275 Dhs for a group of 4 (USD$60.30) and is operational all week long. Nearly 1,000 people tried the experience in the first month of operation, making it a success for Yas Waterworld.

The safety and health of their guests and employees have always been Yas’s top priority. Following their reopening, Yas Waterworld was awarded the ‘Go Safe’ certification by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi). They also received the COVID-19 compliance certificate from TÜV SÜD, one of the leading testing and certification bodies in the world.

Ballast VR is the world leader in Waterpark VR since 2018 with over 25 installations worldwide that generate added revenue for waterparks. Their VRSlide® and DIVR® systems create a unique revenue package for waterparks that are also proven guest satisfaction drivers.

This collaboration was made possible thanks to Ballast’s partnership with Altitude Sports Ventures, a sports management company specializing in bringing strategic development programs to UAE companies.
